Top 5 Things To Do Post-Shattering
by Lodur

5.) Get out of Dalaran! With the patch, all portals to major cities have been removed from Dalaran and Shattrath city. This means that if you were stuck in those cities post patch, it’s time to take the long flight to the boat rides back to your major city of choice. Cities such as Stormwind and Orgrimar have undergone massive changes, and are worth going to and exploring, but you’ll have to take the long way there. Bid farewell to Northrend, because you likely wont be returning unless you have to on an alt.

4.) Roll one of the new class / race combinations. All of the various class and race combinations are available except for any involving Worgen and Goblins. Try one of the new class race combinations, Dwarf Mage, Shaman and Warlocks; Night Elf mages; Gnome Priests; Troll Druids; Tauren Paladins and Undead Hunters are just some of the new options. For each race, their starting zones have all been altered and are worth the extra play through for the first few levels.  They are well worth your time. They really help showcase how much the game truly has changed. Besides, Ret Bull gives you wings, how can you not enjoy that?

3.) Punch Deathwing in the face. In the Badlands, there is a quest near a very “dragon looking” scar that helps tell the story of The Day that Deathwing Came back to Azeroth. Players participate in the a remembrance of an NPC first seeing Deathwing take flight over the Badlands in his destructive tour of Azeroth. The quest is fun, funny and adds some good flavor to the return of the Aspect of Death. Spoiler: It ends with you punching Deathwing in the face! Also, it lets you see Deathwing in his human form!

2.) Tour Zul’Gurub and the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj. ZG is an instance many players have grown accustomed to being around since the early days of World of Warcraft. It is nestled away in the northern section of Stranglethorn Vale. With the Shattering, the former raid instance has been transformed into a questing area. This adds several new quests for players to explore and allows free access to the entirety of the zone. It is well worth taking a look through. The same holds true for the Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj, or as many know it AQ20. In the shifting sands of Silithus, the ruins of a former civilization sit ready for exploration. Originally a raid zone in Vanilla WoW, it has now been turned into a quest hub just like ZG. It is well worth exploring now that it is devoid of raid bosses. Both zones were really well done and beautifully crafted, and exploring them is something everyone should do. They offered some of the best content, unique art and represent a time of change well before the shattering, and are just as breathtaking in their postmortem.

1.) Explore the world! Do you remember the first time you loaded World of Warcraft? Do you remember how big and new the world felt? It has been a while since the game has felt like that for many people. But now, everything has changed, quite literally in fact. Zones have exploded as tectonic plates shifted underfoot, new fires burn in old areas, mountains are sheared and melted and there are huge grooves in the land. Take some time and visit all the zones. Check your map frequently as a plethora of new towns and flight paths have been added both in the form of faction specific points and neutral towns. Visit Darkshore and see the devestation that has befallen the already blighted Night Elf land. Travel through the Badlands and see how the land is scarred by Deathwing. Visit your major faction cities and look at everything that has changed. NPCs may have gone missing, new ones may be in there place. The fact is the world is brand new again. Take time to explore it as much as you can until Cataclysm is released. There are a ton of new quests and NPCs to talk to throughout the world, and plenty of new achievements to work on if you want to. Exploring everything is probably the single greatest thing you can do with your time post shattering. If you’re anything like me, you may feel a bit of nostalgia for the old world, so you can also use this time to say goodbye to something you’ve known as a constant fixture for the last six years.
