We discussed DC Universe Online on one of our podcast episodes a few weeks back, and I mentioned how I feel the concept works better for DC than it would for Marvel. One of my reasons for feeling this way is that the locations in the DC universe are unique and have a powerful personality all their own.
That’s very, very important in an MMO.
Whether we’re talking about Azeroth, Atreia or in this case, Gotham.
Anyone who’s read the comics will get a small shiver from walking down Crime Alley, the location where Bruce Wayne’s parents were gunned down. Similarly, a trip to Arkham Asylum is bound to bring a devilish grin to your face.
Check out this fly-by for more iconic locations.
I just love the bat-signal. And Gotham feeling that one gets from that demo is really nice. It’s musky and gloomy and bad things happen there. Not a happy place to be as it should.
With the amusement mile and funhouse I couldn’t help thinking “Crackdown” ^^ But I’ve not read enough Batman to know whether it has been drawn like that before. The ACE Chemical plant was very cool :D Anyway it’s looking very very slick! I can’t wait to see it alive with people.
But come on SOE. What’s the point of uploading videos in HD when you’re compressing them so much that it becomes a mosaic of compression blocks in full screen at the least camera movement -.- Seen too often these days, it’s like they just want that HD tag so bad that the actual quality doesn’t matter.
Can’t wait for the live version of this game… just so that my leveling means something, as it will be a character that remains.
Cause I am SO loving this game.
You and me both. you and me both…
